Relative abundance and spectrum of alpha -particles in the inner radiation belt of the earth from measurements aboard AES Prognoz 5.
Abstract
Alpha-particles, whose relative content with respect to protons is 0.003 to 0.004, can be used as 'labeled atoms' to study particle diffusion processes in the magnetosphere. The proton and alpha-particle spectra in the energy range from 7 to 28 MeV/n, examined in the present paper, were obtained in the inner radiation belt with a spectrometer containing a telescope composed of three silicon detectors and one scintillation detector.
