Statistical inversion methods for remote sensing with electromagnetic waves
Abstract
In this paper methods are discussed to derive surface and density structures from remote sensing measurements with electromagnetic waves including statistical properties of these structures and of the errors of measurement and computation (covariance analysis). It is shown how the physical power of resolution is limited by numerical instabilities (optimum adjustment) and how a priori information can be taken into account with respect to quantities such as correlation lengths and times.
