Handbook on laser engineering
Abstract
Fundamentals of laser engineering are briefly described. Physical phenomena occurring in lasers are discussed, along with the design and technological realization of lasers and their applications in various fields of science and engineering. Particular attention is given to the different types of lasers and laser amplifiers. Methods are presented for calculating the basic parameters of these devices, as well as techniques for modulation and reception of laser radiation. Laser beam shaping and scanning systems are described. Extensive information is provided on the use of lasers in communications, lidar systems, gyroscopics, television, cinematography, defectoscopy and others.
