Diffraction of waves by symmetrical inhomogeneities
Abstract
The book deals with steady-state problems of wave diffraction axisymmetrical and centrally symmetrical inhomogeneities, such as variable density and acoustic velocity in acoustic and magnetoacoustic media, variable depth in hydrodynamic media, variable density and moduli of elasticity in elastic media, and variable permittivity in dielectric media. Since exact solutions can be obtained to a very limited class of problems, attention is centered on approximate methods and their effectiveness. The scattering fields obtained by approximate methods are analyzed.
