Non-linear stability of a two-dimensional stagnation flow
Abstract
Attention is given to the nonlinear mechanics in the stability problem of the stagnation point flow due to the disturbance with finite amplitude. The distortion of the mean flow caused by the Reynolds stress, the properties of the third-order disturbance, and the secondary rate of amplification of the disturbance are studied. Values are found for which the flow in the stagnation region reaches a state of supercritical equilibrium when the Reynolds number exceeds the critical value.
