High efficiency TE-TM mode converter by acousto-optic interaction
Abstract
The paper reports the results of experiments using 0.6328-micron He-Ne laser light in an optical waveguide made of diffused Ti, and confirms the existence of a large small-signal coefficient. Theoretical equations for the TE-TM mode conversion and a formula for the conversion efficiency of the optical surface wave are derived taking the propagation loss into account. The technique for fabricating the diffused Ti type optical waveguide is described. Experimental results for the TE-TM mode conversion are also reported.
