New connectors for an experimental optical fiber transmission system
Abstract
A concentric connector for connecting step-index multi-mode fibers has been newly developed. This connector is small in size and is easily produced with good environmental performance. For fiber-to-fiber connection, average coupling loss and standard deviation are measured to be 0.49 dB and 0.20 dB with a lateral misalignment of 2.1 microns, respectively. Detailed evaluations are presented on design and fabrication of this connector, used for an experimental optical fiber transmission system.
