Space-time pulsations of an arc-plasma filament in a plasmatron channel
Abstract
High-speed cinematography was used to investigate the statistical character of pulsations in the plasma column formed in a sectioned plasmatron with axial-vortex injection of working gas (argon). The effects of superheating and helical instabilities on the formation of the arc discharge in the plasmatron channel are investigated. For certain operating ranges HF transverse oscillations are found to be accompanied by LF regular pulsations apparently caused by the helical shape of the plasma filament.
