A gain optimizing algorithm for adaptive arrays
Abstract
A new adaptive iterative algorithm is developed for adjusting the weighting coefficients of an antenna array such that the array gain is maximized on an incoming signal. The algorithm is based on a steepest ascent maximization of the array output power, subject to a constraint for preventing the weighting coefficients from becoming infinitely large. It is shown that the algorithm prevents the array weights from drifting away from the constraint surface and that it is stable for a suitable range of the feedback gain constant. An example illustrating the performance of the algorithm is included.
