Crossed-field microwave devices
Abstract
The characteristics of crossed-field devices are briefly reviewed and compared with those of klystrons and TWTs. Special applications of crossed-field devices are discussed and attention is given to current developments directed at improving the gain, noise characteristics, and stability of such devices. Techniques for the cost-effective and reliable production of such devices are considered. Aspects of failure analysis are described and consideration is given to current R & D activities in the field as well as to future prospects.
