A0535+26
Abstract
L. Kaluzienski and S. Holt, Goddard Space Flight Center, report that a strong x-ray outburst from a position consistent with that of the recurrent transient in Taurus, A0535+26, has been detected with the Ariel 5 all-sky monitor. Onset occurred some time during Aug. 2-5, with fluxes (3-6 keV) <~ 0.2 and ~ 0.4 times the Crab Nebula being measured on Aug. 1 and 6, respectively. By Aug. 10 the flux had increased to ~ 0.7 times the Crab, and the source was still bright on Aug. 17.
