Abstract
The record-breaking snowstorm of Feb. 6-7 in eastern Massachusetts caused a delay in mailing IAUC 3170 and a ban on all but emergency traffic in Cambridge until Feb. 14. Special arrangements were made to remove the preaddressed cards for IAUC 3171-3172 to Lexington, where the ban ended on Feb. 10, and those Circulars were printed and mailed there. Telegraphic communication was also disrupted for almost 72 hours. Much of the information about comet 1978c was therefore obtained by telephone and then telephoned to key individuals for dissemination in the southern hemisphere.
