Investigation of refraction anomalies by use of satellite photographs
Abstract
A procedure for determining atmospheric refraction anomalies from satellite acceleration characteristics is described. Beta inversions, which are short violations of an inequality involving the satellite acceleration and a quasi-constant, are detected, and a family of parameters is determined from the relation between the zenith distance and the duration of the beta inversion. Calculation of a refraction anomaly curve from these parameters is explained.
