Optimization of radar signals with the Fletcher-Powell-method
Abstract
Discretely coded radar signals are optimized to meet optimum performance of their ambiguity functions. The optimization method used is the Fletcher-Powell-method. A phase code of 16 elements, an amplitude and phase code of 8 elements as well as a multifrequency code of 7 elements are given as optimum examples. The minimal ratio of the ambiguity functions of the optimized signals is better than the minimax ratio of hitherto known radar signals of an equivalent structure.
