Digital multiplex processes and their significance for a digital network
Abstract
Attention is given to the synchronization of digital net signals using pulse code modulation (PCM) equipment in time division multiplexing. The ordering of analog to digital impulses is dealt with in terms of the maintenance of a consistent flow of information through the network. Sources of information loss (up to 130 mistakes/sec) are considered. Both the division and overlap of function between synchronous and plesiochronous operation are discussed, and compared with asynchronous function. Possibilities for future development, especially for higher channel operation, are presented.
