Realisation of a 2-dimensional f.i.r. digital filter using separable filters
Abstract
A technique for expressing a two-dimensional finite impulse response filter function as a sum of separable functions (proposed by Suresh and Shenoi, 1976) has the disadvantage of being inapplicable to cases in which the (1,1) matrix entry is zero at any stage of the expansion. However, if the LU-decomposition method is used to rearrange the row and/or columns of the matrix prior to expansion, this difficulty can be circumvented.
