Adaptation of Sounding Rocket Technology to Spacelab Subsatellites
Abstract
A study on the adaptation of sounding rocket technology to Spacelab subsatellites was conducted. The objective of the study was to design a low cost, general purpose subsatellite of modular construction which could be adapted to various missions. The subsatellites are ejected from Spacelab and can be used to support measurement work done in conjunction with Spacelab. The target cost is discussed for the basic subsatellite. As an alternative, these subsatellites could also be flown as small self-contained payloads under the NASA Get-Away Special program.
