A Quantum Mechanical Description of the Transfer of Radiation. I. The Radiation Processes
Abstract
This paper is an attempt to derive rigorously and to generalize some concepts of the theory of radiation as used in astrophysics. A perturbation theory is developed which allows the unperturbed Hamiltonian to be time-dependent. The first (pressure broadening) and the second and higher (resonance and nonresonance scattering, frequency redistribution, and natural broadening) approximations of the perturbation expansion are then developed.
