Optimum reliability and structure in reliabilitybased structural design
Abstract
A problem is considered to determine simultaneously optimum reliability and structure when the costs caused by the failure of the structure are given. For this purpose the expected total cost is defined; it is taken as the sum of the structural costs and the costs due to the failure of the structure. An algorithmic procedure which applies stochastic programming and the unidimensional search technique is developed and a numerical example is presented.
