Effect of radiative heat transfer on the growth and decay of acceleration waves
Abstract
The objective of the present paper is to study the effect of radiative heat transfer on the amplitude of acceleration waves and to determine the stage at which shock formation will occur. It is shown that radiative heat transfer tends to delay shock formation and that it has a stabilizing effect in the sense that only part of the acceleration waves will develop into shock waves.
