Evidence for white dwarfs in the globular cluster NGC 6752.
Abstract
Results are reported for a search for white dwarfs in the globular cluster NGC 6752, which was carried out using a deep U and B plate pair. A total of 61 candidate objects are found to have measurable U and B images. A (U-B) color less than -0.4 is determined for 46 of these objects. It is tentatively suggested that a substantial fraction of the 46 objects may constitute a white-dwarf component in NGC 6752. Evidence is cited which indicates that there may be a sequence extending from an absolute B magnitude of +8.4 at (U-B) equals -0.9 to an absolute B magnitude of +9.2 at (U-B) equals -0.6 for 27 of these objects with a greater than 50% probability of being cluster members. It is noted that this sequence is considerably brighter than the white-dwarf component in either the Hyades or M67.
