Steady flow of a nonlinear viscous fluid /Glen body/ around a perfectly smooth sphere
Abstract
For a fluid obeying Glen's law, it is shown that the steady flow without cavitation around a perfectly smooth sphere is quite different for the two cases of the exponent parameter being larger or smaller than 3/2. A method for calculating an approximate solution to this problem with the aid of a small computer is presented. Strain rates and stresses are given in a form which satisfies incompressibility, equilibrium, and boundary conditions. Glen's law is only approximately satisfied by the approach. A case in which the treatment yields non-Newtonian results is presented.
