Error probability in optical fiber digital transmission systems with correlated signals
Abstract
The paper deals with the problem of evaluating the error probability in optical fiber digital transmission system in presence of correlated binary signals. The evaluation method proposed takes into account the main phenomena which influence the error probability and is based on the computation, at the decision point, of the moments relative to the correlated disturbing signal (i.e. the intersymbol interference plus the correlated shot noise). A fast recursive procedure is given for computing such moments; the corresponding computational effort grows linearly with the number of relevant digits. As examples of application, the error probability is evaluated in an optical fiber transmission system with Gaussian overall response considering the 2B3B and 3B4B line codes.
