Photoelasticity of glasses in the system Ge-Pb-Bi-O
Abstract
The vitrification limits in the system Ge-Pb-Bi-O were determined and the chief physicochemical and acoustooptical properties of glasses in the system were studied. The central role of GeO2 in glass formation is revealed. For the glasses synthesized, the physicochemical properties were in the following ranges: density - 3.55 to 8.00 g/cu cm; vitrification temperature - 440 to 590 C; crystallization temperature - 486 to 718 C; and refractive index - 1.69 to 2.25.
