Laser transition cross sections of YAP:Nd crystals and some new applications in lasers
Abstract
Group theory is used to calculate the laser transition cross-sections of YAP:Nd crystals, and the value of these cross-sections for elliptically polarized light are shown to be determined by three parameters. Theoretical results are confirmed by experimental results. A variable wavelength laser is constructed, and, for the case when the transmission matrices are U-matrices, polarization and eigenmode frequencies are calculated. It is suggested that the described results can be applied to the construction of a single longitudinal-mode laser with enhanced output and to the development of a new method of laser modulation.
