Japanese broadcast satellite
Abstract
Development of an experimental Japanese TV broadcasting satellite, designed to provide high-quality reception in all areas of a well-defined geographical area, is discussed. The spacecraft employs an elliptical parabolic reflector with a power-splitting three-horn feed to accomodate two sets of isolated islands in the communications link. On-line software will be used for the real-time status evaluation and control of the satellite during orbit operations. TV reception improvement, RF propagation characteristics and field strength time variations are among the communications experiments planned for the satellite following launch in early 1978.
