Photographic photometry of 110 main-belt asteroids.
Abstract
Photographic photometry has been carried out for 101 numbered and 9 newly discovered asteroids, mainly small asteroids from the main asteroid belt. The observational and reduction methods are described. Rotation periods have been determined for about two dozen of the observed asteroids (and estimated for another dozen). For 37 of the observed asteroids light curves are presented. V magnitudes, in some cases B magnitudes, have been determined for more than 80% of the observed asteroids. The study shows that there is a correlation between the percentage of variable asteroids and the absolute magnitudes. Family asteroids seem to have shorter rotation periods than ordinary field asteroids. There are indications that small asteroids have shorter rotation periods than large asteroids. No tendency for a preferential direction of the rotational axes could be traced. Indications are presented that the physical parameters of the asteroids depend upon mean distance and orbital inclination. No correlation appears to exist between physical parameters and orbital eccentricity.
