On the dynamics of multibody earth orbiting systems
Abstract
The problem of stress distribution in a librating multibody system in an arbitrary orbit is formulated using the Lagrangian procedure. An approximate closedform solution of the highly nonlinear, nonautonomous and coupled equations is obtained using Butenin's method. Validity of the approximate solution is checked through numerical integration of the exact equations of motion. This is followed by general expressions for forces and moments which are particularly useful in maintaining an object at a given location and orientation in space.
