Principles and concepts of multistatic surveillance radars
Abstract
Various aspects of high-data-rate multibeam multistatic surveillance radars are reported. Problems encountered in monostatic radar performance are identified as clutter and various types of interference. Multistatic radar systems are described in terms of the separation of transmitting and receiving sites, Doppler processing procedures, transmitter modulations, locating sources of repetitive interfering pulses, and passive detection techniques. Consideration is given to various system components such as the transmitting array, sequential scan, floodlight, and multibeam configurations. System performance is outlined with reference to target detection against receiver noise and the detection of interference sources.
