Military satellite communications
Abstract
The special requirements of a military satellite communication system are explained. These special requirements include the ability to change geographic coverage rapidly, the ability to communicate with large numbers of small mobile terminals, and provision for resistance to deliberate interference. Several evolving communication systems using frequencies in the UHF, SHF, and EHF bands in conjunction with flexible spacecraft antenna and channelization systems are discussed. Some communication satellites, including the DSCS series, LES-6, Tacsat, Marisat, and Fltsat/Afsat, are described.
