Mathematical problems associated with high-frequency plasma heating
Abstract
Energy transfer in a plasma is substantially enhanced in the presence of resonance points at which electromagnetic waves are transformed into plasma waves. It has been shown that in the case of hybrid resonances, absorption is accurately described by the Maxwell equations with a dielectric tensor. In the present paper, a system of equations is derived which yields correct values of the energy transmitted from an external source to the plasma. Numerical methods for solving the system of equations are proposed, and some of the numerical results are analyzed.
