The theory of spatial sidebands applied to null steering
Abstract
The similarity of the mathematics for the creation of nulls in an adaptive null steering antenna and the mathematics for modulation is demonstrated. The solution for obtaining both beam steering as well as null creation for rejection of interference using phase variation only is given. The solution resembles the solution for phase modulation of a carrier. The equations for amplitude variation for null steering are also derived. Algorithms for applying either one to a phased array are included.
