High powered broadcast technology - CTS
Abstract
The operation of small earth stations for broadcast systems is discussed; the earth stations are employed for duplex video and audio communications based on the Communications Technology Satellite. The antenna subsystems, tracking functions, mixer-downconverters, transmitter channels, and high-power amplifiers of the earth stations are considered. Small ground stations with antenna gain to system temperature ratios of 17.3 and 22.5 dB have operated for 350 hours, exhibiting fade margins of 7.7 and 11.7 dB and a time availability of 99.95%.
