TDMA, the state-of-the-art
Abstract
Time-division multiple access (TDMA), a highly reliable means of increasing satellite channel capacity, has recently undergone improvement in the areas of acquisition and synchronization, modulation, transmission link encoding and baseband processing. Burst-synchronous and bit-synchronous time synchronization schemes for TDMA are discussed, and development of closed-loop synchronization systems is mentioned. Signal compression, speech interpolation and demand assignment methods for TDMA systems also receive consideration. Adoption of TDMA for the Canadian Telesat system and for the planned Satellite Business Systems is noted.
