Prospects for high power millimeter radar sources and components
Abstract
The development of the electron cyclotron maser (gyratron) is described. The high-power millimeter-wave applications include radar, and research has been spurred by experiments which yield peak power up to the gigawatt level. Technical issues relevant to the development of 200-kW tubes operating in CW, long pulse, or repetitively pulsed modes are examined. The theoretical basis of the gyratron process is explained, and characteristics of tested devices are described.
