Results of Co-operation in Section 6 of the Intercosmos Program
Abstract
Some of the activities of the section on the use of satellite tracking data for geodesy and geophysics of the Intercosmos program are mentioned. The Arctic-Antarctic project was started with the aim of determining by means of simultaneous photographic laser range tracking of geodetic satellites the directions and distances between stations situated along a meridian. A special mobile tracking camera was built. It is semiautomatic with a 21-cm aperture, a four-axis mount, and an equatorial platform. Visual guidance enables photographing satellites up to 9th magnitude. Directions with an accuracy of 1-2 arcsec are determined. Twenty stations on the north-south arc are equipped with this camera. Preliminary work on the north-east arc has begun.
