Environmental noise assessment, City of Grand Prairie, Texas
Abstract
Relatively inexpensive environmental noise assessment of the metropolitan area of Grand Prairie, Texas was made available using the Type-2 sound level meter. Readings were made every 10 seconds and recorded manually on data sheets. A separate data sheet was used for each hour in order to observe the changes in noise levels at various times of day at eight locations. Environmental noise exposure in one portion of the city appears to present a possible risk of permanent hearing damage, and another portion of the city experiences noise exposure high enough to be unsuitable for residential development.
