Development of high temperature fuel cell battery
Abstract
Proceeding from the basic investigation of single cells, research work was performed with high temperature fuel cell batteries containing ZrO2 solid electrolytes. The main objective was to develop multicell modules and the associated joining technology as well as the development of auxiliary equipment for the operation of the batteries. Modules of 30 tube-shaped in-series connected cells and the subsequently built small battery units as well as the auxiliary equipment necessary for the reformation of natural gas were tested successfully at working temperatures of 1000 C. Experimental cells were operated for more than 22,000 hours at temperatures of 1000 C and under permanent load. The decrease in voltage and performance was minimal.
