Unsteady turbulent boundary layer
Abstract
A turbulent boundary layer developing in an oscillatory external flow is experimentally studied. With the aid of a statistical treatment of data, the periodic component and the turbulent fluctuation of the velocity measured by means of a hot wire anemometer are separately analyzed. A numerical method is presented for solving the local equations by using a mixing length scheme or a transport equations model. An integral method of prediction is also used. The results of these methods are compared with those of the experiment; they are also compared with the results of other methods in an application to theoretical examples.
