Stability and kinetic effects of a standing Langmuir wave
Abstract
In the one-dimensional case, Langmuir waves break up into clusters, which in turn become quasi-stationary and form solitons. Plasma particle-soliton interactions are considered from the standpoint of beam structure and distribution. It is noted that the standing solitons are stable and can be continuously fed by an electron beam, producing humps on the beam velocity and distribution function.
