Apparatus for examining effects of strain on acoustic characteristics of metals
Abstract
A description is given of equipment for the ultrasonic inspection of the characteristic of deformed metals. The pulse-frequency technique used enables one to determine the velocity and attenuation characteristics of longitudinal, shear and surface waves. Diagrams are presented illustrating the design of ultrasonic heads for exciting and detecting these three types of waves and the positioning of heads on specimens.
