The mass spectrometer experiment S 303 on GEOS
Abstract
The described instrument is used for the measurement of the energy and directional distribution of different types of ions. The basic principles of measurement are discussed, taking into account the design of the analyzer and the approaches used to overcome difficulties related to the large energy range which had to be considered. Development concerning the implementation of the design concepts are discussed and a description is presented of the experiments conducted to test the developed devices. The instrument is in operation since May 2, 1977. There are certain problems in connection with changes in the satellite orbit.
