Calculation of the attenuation as a function of rainfall intensity for several polarizations
Abstract
A mathematical model was developed for the atmospheric propagation during rainfall of electromagnetic waves at frequencies over 10 GHz. A Laws-Parson drop-size distribution, a drop attitude distribution and a uniform rain profile were assumed. Two planes of propagation were considered. Tables containing several types of attenuation coefficients calculated for horizontal, vertical, bisecting, and circular right and left polarization are given. A discussion of results is included, with special reference to cross-polarization applications and experimental verification.
