The lighting discharge in terms of four parameters
Abstract
Correlation equations are employed to represent the four action parameters of a lightning discharge in terms of specific circuit parameters of the discharge path in a thundercloud. The feasibility of determining the circuit parameters of the discharge path from the action parameters determined from measurements of the lightning current is examined. The discharge path is initially simulated by discrete circuit elements, the number of which must clearly be adapted to a four dimensional representation with reference to the correlations to be derived. The regions of responsibility of the four action parameters and their statistically distributed measured values are summarized. The defining equations for a lightning current considered as aperiodically damped are formulated and used to derive the required correlations for a series of calculations in both directions.
