Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) system limitations due to phase errors
Abstract
The origin of phase errors and the influence of the errors on the performance of SAR, with emphasis on quadratic phase error components, are discussed. The resolution loss due to acceleration and velocity errors was estimated, both for aircraft and for satellite platforms. It was found that high resolution and long range airborne SAR systems are limited by quadratic phase errors, satellite borne SAR systems are not limited by phase errors because the planned resolution remains far below the existing boundary values.
