The CERL fluxprobe - a portable, direct reading, radiant heat flux measuring device
Abstract
A portable self-contained, radiant heat-flux measuring device is described that enables measurements of local heat fluxes to be made through suitable apertures in a working boiler. In the instrument, the receiving surface of a thermally guarded measuring core is maintained at the temperature of the surrounding boiler tube surfaces by a natural convection heat sink, linked to the sensing head by a heat pipe. The design is such that the calibration is substantially independent of the amount of sensing head exposed to radiation. The received flux is presented in digital form.
