A simple and fast matching method for mutual coupling of a linear phased array antenna with waveguide apertures as radiating elements
Abstract
For three different linear arrays it is shown that a match to free space of each array element in its surroundings will result in a compensation for mutual coupling the effect of which is approximately the same as a match at a scan angle about halfway the scan interval. For all three cases, the remaining loss percentage, averaged over all scan angles of the scan interval, is a few percent and this value is only about 0.3% higher than the minimum calculated value. Use is made of measured coupling coefficients. The loss percentage was also measured directly and turned out to be a little lower than the calculated values. Matching the elements to free space can be done simply and quickly.
