Orbit prediction for the Astronomical Netherlands Satellite
Abstract
The ANS satellite configuration is presented and its flight analyzed. The Delft orbit prediction activities are reviewed and prediction methods used are described. Prediction results tested using orbital data from the ESA TD-IA satellite, which was injected in 1972 into an orbit quite similar to the nominal ANS orbit are discussed and analyzed. Though the detailed analysis of the NAS orbit prediction is not yet finished it is concluded that from more than 1 1/2 years, orbit predictions were generated which satisfied the accuracy requirements. In addition, analysis of orbital data revealed the important effects of solar and geomagnetic disturbances on the satellite orbit.
