Overview of DoD system applications
Abstract
The paper surveys potential applications of far infrared and submillimeter waves in DoD weapon systems. The applications discussed are beam rider guidance, submillimeter wave covert communications, interaction with reentry plasma and rocket exhausts, target detection from satellites, and low angle tracking radar systems. These applications are the most likely to come into being in the reasonable future and their assessment is based on currently available components and those that are projected to be available in the near future.
