Improvement in gain due to arranging radiating sources in an array
Abstract
The paper presents a method for calculating the improvement of gain that results when radiating sources are arranged in an array. The method is based on the geometric concept of a cross-section and takes into account, in an implicit manner, the effect of coupling and mutual interactions among the element sources. Formulas are derived for the improvement of gain in both linear arrays and in two-dimensional arrays. It is suggested that the new method can not replace classical procedures but can facilitate calculations for complicated arrays.
